Financial Highlights

The American Chemical Society (ACS) ended 2022 with solid financial results. The Society generated a change in net assets without donor restrictions from operations of $65.2 million on revenues of $751.3 million and expenses of $686.1 million. This performance was achieved due to a continuation of growth from the information services divisions and lower than expected net expenses across Society programs and administration.

The Society’s overall financial position declined, with net assets without donor restrictions decreasing by $87.7 million from Dec. 31, 2021, to $628.9 million as of Dec. 31, 2022. The year-end balance includes the aforementioned $65.2 million net from operations, along with net investment losses of $158.7 million. The Society ended the year in compliance with all of the ACS Board-established financial guidelines.

From 2022 membership dues revenue, ACS allotted $1.8 million to local sections and $1.3 million to divisions. Net dues revenue was $7.0 million.
